Dr. Dee L'Archeveque Biography

I take care of everyone like they were my family.

I grew up in a suburb of southern California and did not live the idyllic California lifestyle. From early on my mother was plagued with numerous medical problems and I longed to help. My father an ex-WW11 veteran did not often ask for help but worked hard day and night to live the American dream.

This dedication and perseverance to do the right thing led to accolades as a UCLA undergraduate and a medical student. I worked hard to graduate Magnum cum laude in two majors and with honors and distinction from UCLA medical school in 1992.

I embarked on a career in surgery at UC-Davis East Bay and learned my problem-solving skills and tireless energetic personality were better in the field of emergency medicine. I started a successful residency during which I worked constantly and developed a sense of community. We see people at their worst and we try and put them together with a smile and dignity. We also need to work in the community to prevent people and children from ending up in the emergency department.

I worked tirelessly against child abuse and domestic violence, lecturing my fellow doctors often and worked in legislature to pass the Lance Helms bill toughening up child abuse legislation after my friend's child's life was cut short by his biological father.

I came out to New York to start a domestic violence program in Brooklyn, New York. I quickly learned about diverse cultures and the challenges of getting the word out.

I successfully started the first domestic violence task force at Maimonides Medical Center, where it thrives today. My work in emergency medicine and domestic violence prepared me for my leadership roles at North Shore University Hospital-Forest Hills and St. John's Episcopal.

I started Phones for Life. Inc with the assistance of Newageworks.com as a project where we bought the first 60 phones at a police auction and have now given out over 15,000.

My philosophy on health care prevails at Phones for Life. I believe that high quality health care includes treating patients and their families with respect and understanding. If we treat our patients as if they were part of our family and give them excellent comprehensive care, the whole system wins. Patients stay with us because they are part of our family.

Phones for Life recipients stay with us and spread the word about how their lives are more secure and successful because they are part of our family. I have poured both my energy and my money into Phones for Life, because we owe it to our seniors to treat them as valuable members of our family.

I invite you to join our family. Thank you for your interest.

Donate your phone, time or money to continue our efforts. You won't be disappointed.
